Willie Jean Wallace, 76, of East Moline, IL, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus in Silvis, IL. Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 21st, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22nd, at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Those wishing to attend at graveside should be at Wendt Funeral Home no later than 9:45 a.m. to be included in the procession to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to New Melleray Abbey, Peosta, IA. Willie Jean was born in Paris, TN, on April 15, 1940, to Willie Lorena Robbins and Peter Fulop (stepfather). On February 16, 1963, in Detroit, MI, she married James Wallace, who survives. She was a graduate of Southwestern High School in Detroit. She was a housewife raising three boys along with working part time for Religious Supply in Davenport, IA. After moving to West Des Moines, IA, in 1984, she worked for the West Des Moines school system, retiring in 2000. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline, and was involved with the Sacred Heart Shut-In program, along with Junior Achievement and Cub Scouts. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, reading, and puzzles, and most of all, loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. In addition to James, her husband of nearly fifty-four years, survivors include her sons, Joe (Roxanne Jackson) Wallace of Plainfield, IL, Jay (Theresa Bowman) Wallace of Moline, and Jim (Barb) Wallace of Coral Springs, FL; and seven grandchildren: Philip Wallace, Jordan Wallace, Leslee Wallace, Cameron Taylor, Claire Wallace, William Wallace, and Jim Wallace.
