William Long

August 5, 1938 — May 29, 2023

William "Bill" Long, 84, of Rock Island, IL, passed away peacefully Monday, May 29, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA.


Services will be Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 10:00 am, at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, IL, with a visitation on Friday, June 2, 2023, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Burial will be in Moline Memorial following the service.


Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.


William was born in Galesburg, IL, on August 5, 1938, to Albert and Doris (Schewe) Long. He was married to Beverly James and later married Janet Davis on September 6, 1974 in Rock Island.


He graduated from Moline High School, class of 1956. He started out working as a meat cutter for National Tea in his younger years. Later he began working in the life insurance industry for Met Life and moved over to John Deere Life in which he retired from in 1994.


He loved golf and was an avid Cardinals fan.


Survivors include his wife Janet; sons Billy (Tammy) Long, of Moline, IL, Daniel ( Joan Murphy) Long, of Aurora, CO, Darin Davis, of Silvis, IL, and Brett Davis of Rock Island, IL; eight grandchildren Alaina, Brianna, Chelsea, Christine, Ashley, Dylan, Douglas, and Brandon; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister Cindy Laughead, of Muscatine, IA; and brother Albert "Bud" (Sami) Long of Rock Island, IL.


He was preceded in death by his parents and daughters, Paula and Belinda.
