William J. Barnes

William J. Barnes, 79, of Moline, IL, died December 16, 2016, at his home. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. There will be committal services held with Military Honors by American Legion Post #246 of Moline, at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30th. Those wishing to attend the graveside services should arrive at Wendt Funeral Home by 1:45 p.m. for the procession to the National Cemetery. William J. Barnes was born in Moline on November 4, 1937, to Paul and Helen (Laird) Barnes. He graduated with the Moline High School Class of 1955, and attended the University of Illinois for two years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 until 1962, spending two of those years in Germany. He retired in 2001, after thirty-five years, from Galesburg Glass Company in Davenport, IA. Survivors include a niece, Terri Chesko of California; nephews, James Sayer and Michael Sayer, both of California; and a cousin, G. Wayne Laird of Vandalia, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Charlotte Barnes.
