William "Bill" Leopard, 87, of Moline, IL, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011, at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, IA. Visitation will be Friday, April 1st, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Saturday, April 2nd, at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #246 of Moline. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Rock Island County Animal Care & Control, or to Trinity Pathway Hospice. William H. Leopard, Jr. was born in Centerville, IA, on April 4, 1923, to William and Ethel (Green) Leopard, Sr. On April 12, 1975, in Centerville, he married Velma Jane Cook, who survives. Bill served in the U. S. Army Air Corps, as a paratrooper, from 1947 until 1949. He worked as a coal miner, and then worked for 33 years as Bulk Building Operator for Ralston Purina Company, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and working in his yard, gardening both flowers and vegetables. He especially loved his little dog, Penny. In addition to his wife, Velma Jane, survivors include; a daughter: Denise Nelson of Davenport, IA; a son: Roy "Billy" (Sandra) Leopard of Illinois City, IL; two sisters: Bonnie Chandler of Ottumwa, IA, and Fern Smith of Fairfield, IA; two brothers: Archie and Arnold Leopard, both of Fruitland, IA; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, two brothers, and five sisters.
