William David Schultz

William D. Schultz, 89, of Moline, IL, died Monday, May 25, 2009, at Trinity Terrace Park in Bettendorf, IA. Services will be Thursday, May 28th, at 11:00 a.m., at First Christian Church, 1826 - 16th Street, Moline. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #246 of Moline, and graveside Masonic Rites will be provided by Doric Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Moline. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Moline, or to the KAABA Transportation Fund for Children. William D. Schultz was born in Moline, IL, on January 23, 1920, to Harry and Zola (Patterson) Schultz. On March 24, 1940, in Muscatine, IA, he married Darlene H. Liedtke, who survives. He attended Roosevelt Military Academy in Aledo, IL, graduated from Moline High School, and attended Augustana College in Rock Island. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, attached to the 45th Infantry Division, known as the Thunderbirds. He owned and operated Schultz Photography Studio in Moline for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of First Christian Church in Moline, and a 40-year member of the Rock Island County Board. He was a 50-year member of Doric Lodge A.F. & A.M. Moline, and a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Moline. He was a member of KAABA Shrine in Davenport, a past-president of the Black Hawk Shrine Club, past-president of Moline Hi-12 Club, past-president of the Optimist Club, past-president of the Moline Exchange Club, and a Golden Life member of the Illinois Photographic Association. In addition to his wife, Darlene, survivors include: a son: Michael Schultz of Moline; three grandsons: Robert Schultz of Moline, Dylan Dray of Belvidere, IL, and Scott Schultz of Lexington, KY; three granddaughters: Peggy Carpenter of Rock Island, IL, Sonya Gilmore of Miami, FL, and Lisa Schultz of Lexington, KY; three great-grandsons: Mitchell and Zachary Schultz, both of Moline, and Andrew Carpenter of Rock Island; and two great-granddaughters: Ashley Dray of Belvidere, IL, and Elizabeth Schultz of Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Byron Zesiger, and a daughter: Bonnie Schultz Dray.
