William A. Uphold

William A. “Bill” Uphold, 72, of East Moline, IL, died Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Genesis Medical Center East in Davenport, IA. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 3 rd , from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL.  Services will be Thursday, April 4 th , at 10:30 am, at the funeral home.  Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to the family or to Fellowship Temple in Silvis, IL.  Bill was born in Moline on May 7, 1946, son of William E. and Dorothy (Burke) Uphold.  In East Moline, on August 30, 1969, he married Sharon Daily, who survives. After graduation from United Township High School, Bill served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on Pearl Harbor.  He was employed by John Deere Plow Planter Works for 42 years, retiring in 2006 as a Press Operator.  He then worked for a time at Water Works Car Wash in Moline.  He was a member of Fellowship Temple in Silvis.  Bill enjoyed tinkering in his garage, all types of cars, attending car shows, and loved telling jokes and writing poems. In addition to Sharon, his wife of nearly 50 years, survivors include a daughter, Amy (Joe) Smith of Colona, IL; son William (Michelle) Uphold of Moline; a sister, Patty Douglas; three grandchildren, Cole Smith of Davenport, IA, Keegan (Kaitlyn) Behrens of Beverly Hills, FL, and Morgan Smith of Colona, IL; a great-granddaughter and a great-granddaughter on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mary Clare Depover.
