Wendell Hunigan, 90, of Moline, IL, passed away at the home of his son in Galesburg, IL, on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Services will be Friday, April 23rd, at 11:00 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2601 - 15th Street, Moline. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #246. Wendt Funeral Home in Moline is handling the arrangements. Wendell Berke Hunigan was born in Coffeyville, KS, on February 19, 1920, to James and Stella Hunigan. On March 1, 1942, in Parsons, KS, he married Theresa, who preceded him in death on November 21, 2001. He grew up in Coffeyville, KS, and served as a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, from 1942 to 1945. He was employed by Blackhawk Foundry, and then was the owner/operator of Hunigan's Janitorial Service for 28 years before retiring in 1994. After his retirement, he worked at Black Hawk College in Moline on the custodial staff. He was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, and was a past chairman of the Trustee Board, and a past president of the Brotherhood. He enjoyed fishing, and playing cards, especially Bridge. Survivors include: two daughters: Toni McNeal of Bettendorf, IA, and Judith (Bobby) Carithers of Wichita, KS; four sons: Curtis (Laverne Brookshire) Hunigan of Davenport, IA, Howard (Jo-Ann) Hunigan of Matteson, IL, John Hunigan and Wendel (Elvria) Hunigan, all of Galesburg, IL; ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mildred Evans. Memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church.
