Wayne Schroeder, 81, of Coal Valley, IL, passed peacefully away on Saturday, January 6, 2018, in his home which he shared with his daughter and son-in-law. Services will be held Wednesday, January 10th, at 6:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday, two-hours prior to the service, beginning at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Home Hospice. Wayne was born February 27,1936 to Walter and Ethel (Vantine) Schroeder in Rock Island, IL, where he spent his childhood years playing in Douglas Park and the Fire Station next to his father's gas station. He later moved to the Sherrard, IL, area, where he made many life-long friends, and graduated from Sherrard High School in 1955. Wayne had many different occupations over the years, but some of his happiest memories were from owning his two taverns in Reynolds, IL, from 1968-1974. He later went to work for Salens Beverage in Rock Island, retiring after twenty-plus years. Wayne married Pauline Leeser in the early ‘60s and they had a daughter, Ralene. Pauline had two children she brought to the marriage, Rene Pinkerton (Lowe) and Rusty Pinkerton, which Wayne loved as his own. They later divorced but remained life-long friends. In 1972, he met and married Rosemary Feeley and embarked upon their thirty-plus years of adventure until, sadly, he lost Rose in 2008. Wayne and Rose had lived in Moline, IL, until retirement and then moved to Green Valley, AZ, where they resided for over twenty years. In 1980, Wayne was blessed with his beautiful granddaughter, Jessica. They shared a special bond from the day she was born that will continue forever. Jessica lovingly cared for her grandpa in Green Valley, AZ, for six years, before he returned home to Illinois to be with his daughter, Ralene. Wayne loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. Making people laugh and share his joy was a special gift and he made friends wherever life took him. Golf was a love he shared with his daughter and many of his friends. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Wayne and Rose traveled the earth together, and now reunited, will continue their journey. Survivors include his daughter, Ralene (Ron) Peters, and his granddaughter, Jessica Grubaugh, all of Coal Valley; a sister, Lila Harbarger of Reynolds, IL; and many nieces and nephews who meant the world to him. In addition to his wife, Rosemary, he was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Howard and Harold Schroeder, a nephew, Jim Schroeder, and a niece, Diane Schroeder-Klier. The family sends a special thank you to the nurses at Trinity Hospice, truly an amazing team of angels, who so lovingly cared for Wayne.
