Virgil Max Bennett, 88, of Rock Island, IL, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at UnityPoint Trinity West Medical Center in Rock Island, IL. Services will be Tuesday, January 12th, at 12:00 noon, with a two-hour visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of the service, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Inurnment will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Moline Breakfast Optimist Club or to QC Paws. Max was born in Mechanicsville, IA, on November 1, 1927, to Carl T. and Winnifred H. (Lenahan) Bennett. On January 31, 1953, in Rock Island, he married Patricia L. Moortel, who survives. After high school and college, Max served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, after which he was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for thirty years. His impressive list of membership includes Black Hawk Shrine Club, Hi-Twelve, Moline Breakfast Optimist Club, Royal Order of Jesters, C.R.A.B.S., and a 60-year membership with the Lindsay Park Yacht Club. He loved boating with family and friends and spending many winters in Arizona. In addition to his wife Patricia, survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane (Thomas) Newenham of Moline, and a granddaughter whom he adored, Alexandra Newenham, of Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert Bennett.
