Vernon B Goodman

Vernon Goodman, 91, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014, at UnityPoint/Trinity West in Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be Monday, August 25th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Services will be Tuesday, August 26th, at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Honor Flights of the Quad Cities. Vernon Goodman was born June 12, 1923, in Belle, MO, to Perry W. and Octavia (Hancks) Goodman. On July 9, 1971, in Marceline, MO, he married Dorothy Johnson, who preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Army in the Belgian Theater during WWII. He retired from John Deere Plow Planter Works and was a member of the U.A.W. He was an ardent outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. For 35 years, he went Elk hunting in Colorado, his last hunting trip at the age of 80. He was a builder. He liked keeping up with current events, and he especially loved helping anybody and everybody. Survivors include: children, Jacqueline (Tim Miller) Goodman of Milan, Raymond Goodman and Terry Goodman, both of Galesburg, IL, Vernon L. Goodman of East Moline, IL, Pam Long of Milan, Mark Johnson of Sherrard, IL, Sherri (Dennis) Scrutchfield of Coal Valley, IL, and Brenda (Jim) Pyrz of Swisher, IA; eight grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, a son-in-law, and a great-grandson.
