Velma Jane Cook Leopard, 90, of Moline, IL, died Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center Nursing Home in Davenport, IA. Visitation will be Monday, September 16th, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Tuesday, September 17th, at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. The officiant will be Pastor Roger Vester of New Life Baptist Church in Davenport. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Velma Jane Cook was born in Davenport, IA, on November 30, 1922, to Jess and Ebol (Dopler) Cook. In 1941, in Moline, she married Roy Magerkurth, who preceded her in death in 1974. On April 12, 1975, in Centerville, IA, she married William H. "Bill" Leopard, Jr, who preceded her in death March 28, 2011. She was a sales clerk for the Uptown Variety Store in Moline for 30 years, retiring in 1973. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, card playing, and especially loved her little dog, "Penny". Survivors include: a step-daughter: Denise Nelson of Bettendorf, IA; a step-son: Roy William Leopard of Illinois City, IL: two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters: Vera Cook, and Betty Richardson, both of Davenport; and a brother: Lyle Cook of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, eight brothers, two sisters, and a son: Roy Magerkurth.
