Thomas Michael Welsh

Thomas “Tom” Michael Welsh 86, of Moline, Illinois passed from this life on Sunday, June 30, 2019 peacefully at the Friendship Manor Community.  He was born on April 25, 1933 in Rock Island, Illinois to parents Thomas Welch and Mary (Majorski) Welch.  Tom grew up in Rock Island, Illinois where he attended and graduated from Alleman High School.  He was a bricklayer for 50 years and 32 of those years Tom and Edward Rodts were in partnership as Rodts & Welsh Masonry.  Three of Tom's son's followed in his footsteps in the masonry trade. Tom was a member of the Catholic Foresters and parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  He loved to spend time with his family especially when he took his granddaughters on their annual shopping trip, everything was on grandpa!!  In early years he hunted and fished with family and friends.  He loved to watch the horse races at the Downs and working in his garden.  He served 3 years in the Illinois National Guard.  After he retired he used his artistic talents to make cherished gifts and crafts for family and friends.  Tom was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.  Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Nancy (Wahlgren) Welsh of 65 years, his children Mark (Sue) Clinton Township, MI, Tim (Karen) Kerrville, TX, Keith, Moline, IL, Chris (Chrissy) Port Byron, IL and Joe (Angela) Moline, IL; his brother Daniel Welch and two sisters Janice Winger and Dianne Miller.  Tom has five grandchildren Christina Holman, Megan Jordahl, Sara Parker, Rob Sparkman and TJ VanAlsburg.  There are also twelve great grandchildren Grace and Blake Holman; Alex Gove, Grace and Sophia Jordahl; Avery Parker and Mason Welvaert; RJ, Chelsea, Devon and Maci Sparkman; and his beloved dog, “Sid”.  Tom was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Mary Welch; and two sisters Jean Romans and Kathleen Schomer. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the local Salvation Army Ministry or the Friendship Manor Community. A memorial service will be held at the Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL on Monday, July 8 th at 1:00 pm with Father Cole of Sacred Heart officiating.   Friends are invited to join the family for a fellowship luncheon following the service at the Viking Club, 1450 – 41 st Street Moline from 2:00 to 5:00pm.
