Thomas J Johnson, 73, devoted husband, dad, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, in Mountain Vista Hospital, Mesa, AZ. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 18th, in Mesa, AZ. Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL, is assisting the family with arrangements. Tom was born in Moline, IL, March 28, 1938, to Fritz and Evelyn Johnson. He graduated with the Moline High School Class of 1955, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Bradley University in 1960. On August 3, 1958, in Moline, he married Lynette Reilly. He was employed for over 37 years at Barber-Coleman, Kysor of Byron & Bergstrom Manufacturing, retiring in 2001. His smile made everyone else smile and laugh, and he always had a joke to tell. Tom was passionate about his sports. He was an avid golfer, and a spectator of football, baseball, and golf, and an enthusiastic fan of the Bears, Cubs and Diamondbacks. He also enjoyed volunteering, most recently for MLB All-Star Weekend in PHX 2011, and Waste Management Phoenix Open 2012. He served as a Precinct Committeeman, Rock Valley College Trustee, Cherry Valley Township Trustee, and Cherry Valley Fire Trustee. He was active in his sons Cub and Boy Scout activities. Tom was a blood donor since 1963, and later an apheresis donor. In addition to his wife, Lynette, survivors include: son, Christopher Johnson; grandsons, Grant Johnson and Garrett Johnson; great-granddaughter, Jaylee; brother, Fritz (Carole) Johnson; brother-in-law, Douglas (Tonya) Reilly; sisters-in-law, Joy Johnson and Carol Reilly; daughter-in-law, Pam Johnson; nieces/nephews, Chip (Takako) Johnson, Lynne (Robert) Harding, Tim Johnson, Holly (Dan) Lawson, and Megan Johnson. He was preceded in death by his a son, Rick Johnson; an infant son, Todd Johnson; parents Fritz and Evelyn Johnson; brother-in-law, Tom Reilly, and in-laws, Leonard and Ila Reilly.
