Thomas Edward Crosby passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024, in Geneseo, IL, at the age of 90. Born on September 17, 1933, in Moline, IL, he was the devoted son of the late Clarence and Elsie (Carley) Crosby.
Thomas's life was marked by a steadfast commitment to his family and country. On July 13, 1957, he married the love of his life, Sharlene K. Anderson, in Rock Island, IL. Their union was blessed with a loving family, including daughters Mitzi (Ken) Morris of Albany, IL, and Shari Crosby (Joe Schiltz) of East Moline, IL; sons Ricky Crosby (Lorraine Canter) of Anamosa, IA, and Scott (Kathy) Crosby of Robins, IA. He was a proud grandfather to Cristi (Morris) Darby, Tiffani (Morris) Carlson, Steffani (Morris) Poston, Benjamin Grems, and Tara Crosby. His joy was multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren Tyler Jungwirth, Brody Jungwirth, Max Darby, Caiden Carlson, Abby Poston, Ava Poston, and Ayden Poston. Thomas also leaves behind a legacy of love with his fifteen nieces and nephews and multiple great-nieces and nephews.
Thomas graduated from Moline High School. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Military Police officer before embarking on a career as an inspector at John Deere. After many years of diligent work, he retired on May 1, 1992, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and integrity. His commitment to service extended into his spiritual life as an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Geneseo, where he formed lasting friendships and served his community with grace.
Thomas's interests were as diverse as his talents. He had a passion for baseball, golf, and bowling, each hobby offering him leisure and avenues to connect with friends and share moments of camaraderie and competition. These interests allowed him to touch many lives, teaching and inspiring others with his skill and sportsmanship.
Thomas's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, yet his legacy endures through the lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, Esther, Marilyn, Lee, Robert, and Russell. Despite this loss, his spirit remains a guiding light for his family and those fortunate enough to know him.
As we bid farewell to Thomas Edward Crosby, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life rich in love, wisdom, and joy. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend, and patriot, each role carried out with unparalleled devotion. Though he may be gone from our sight, the memories of his laughter, stories, and unwavering love will continue to inspire and comfort us.
A life as full and vibrant as Thomas's cannot be forgotten, and his legacy will live on through the values he instilled in his family and the impact he had on his community.
