Thomas Dickens

May 25, 1989 — January 17, 2025

Thomas L. Dickens, known as Tom to his friends, passed away after an extended illness on January 17, 2025, in his hometown of Moline, Illinois. Born on May 25, 1989, he had a kind nature, generous spirit, and creative soul.

Tom's early years were spent surrounded by the love and guidance of his parents, Steve and Carol Dickens and his brother Patrick. Tom grew up with a strong sense of family, which was further enriched by Patrick’s marriage to Danielle and the happy arrival of his nephew Ryder and niece Harper.

A proud graduate of Moline High School, Tom's love for learning and history included his fascination with World War II history, was not just a hobby but a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. Tom's curiosity about the past translated into many animated conversations with friends and family, who always marveled at his extensive knowledge of the subject. Thomas was also involved in the Moline Boys Choir, and the Civil Air Patrol and swam with the Moline Blue Marlins swim team.

Tom worked at many different jobs, including his own lawn care business. One of his favorite jobs was working at the Nova Cinema Moline until they closed. He loved movies and could quote from a long list of his favorites.

Tom's interests were as diverse as they were profound. A lover of games, he could often be found engaged in friendly competition, bringing laughter and joy to those around him. His creative, musical, and artistic abilities were another avenue through which Tom expressed himself. He also enjoyed his trips camping and fishing to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota, Canada, and Colorado with family and friends.

Those who knew Tom would describe him as a kind and caring person.

Thomas was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, his aunt MarySue Moro, and uncle Danny Dickens.

Tom's family will hold a celebration of life later to honor his memory. They invite those who knew him to reflect on Tom and how he affected their lives and to keep his spirit alive.
