Thomas A Luse

October 11, 1934 — February 21, 2021

Thomas A. Luse, 86, Moline, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021. The family is planning a private service.

Tom was born in Cedar Rapids on October 11, 1934 and moved to Hampton, IL, shortly after. He graduated from Augustana and Western Illinois University with a Masters’ Degree. He taught in Moline for 34 years as a science teacher at Coolidge Jr. High, finishing his career at Moline High School. He loved teaching and working with his colleagues.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Moline, serving as a deacon and elder. He met his wife there so it will always hold a special place in our hearts! When the church closed, he and Jan went to Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline.

He and Jan travelled everywhere the family was to spend time with them! We are lucky he liked taking pictures of all of his adventures. He was an avid golfer with his teacher friends and loved watching golf tournaments when he could no longer play. He was always at the top of the leader board himself in putt putt golf!

Those left to cherish him are his loving wife, Jan, of 61 years and two daughters who love him dearly: Pam (Lance) Ryley and Stacia (Scott) Rapsilber. Tom has 6 grandkids that always enjoyed spending time with him: Megan Melch, Amanda (Lee) Sarno, Allison (Aaron) Vander Bee, Tim (Lindi) Smith, Matt Smith and Caleb Rapsilber. He was lucky to have time to spend with his three geat-grandchildren, Parker Smith, Pearson Smith and Casper Vander Bee. He is also survived by his sister Elvira (Lonard) Blansett and sister-in-law Shirley Luse.

Those to welcome him to Heaven include his parents, and two brothers, Norman and Charles.

The family wishes memorial contributions be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation .
