Stig I Anderson

February 29, 1932 — September 28, 2014

Stig I. Anderson, 82, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family, on September 28, 2014. Stig was born February 29, 1932, in Arvika, Sweden, to Julius and Ellen Andersson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Florence Anderson, and five brothers and sisters. Mr. Anderson is survived by his son Gregory (Suzanne) Anderson, daughter Elizabeth (Dale) Jinks, granddaughters Abby Elizabeth and Anna Kristine, and grandsons Joshua (Tabatha), Nicholas (Tabby), and Zachary William. He is also survived by two sisters Inga Lisa and Christina, both from Sweden. He was blessed with six great-grandchildren: Lila, Reeve, Foster, Joey, Ryley, and Trenton. Stig was the owner of Stig Anderson and Son Painting and Decorating Company for over forty years. He was also an instructor for several years, at the Painters Local 502. He was a member of the Viking club and the Vasa Organization. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Moline where he participated as choir member and church council member for several years. Stig perfected the art of woodworking and making furniture from scratch. He enjoyed helping his son and daughter with school projects, and eventually decorating his children’s homes with his old world craftsmanship. Stig learned to play several musical instruments on his own. His favorite instrument was his beloved accordion. Stig played his accordion at church functions, family reunions, Swedish festivals, Augustana College, Bishop Hill, and in the quiet surrounding of his home. He simply loved music. Stig’s love for cooking was well known. He never used a recipe and smiled when people tried to figure out what ingredients he used. Stig was always supportive of those who asked for help. He was very giving and always put others before him. He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him. He loved the Lord his God, and is now resting peacefully for all eternity with his Savior. Donations in his honor can be made to the American Cancer Society. Private services will be held.
