Shirley Fatchett

November 23, 1934 — February 14, 2022

Mrs. Shirley Evelyn Fatchett, age 87, of East Moline, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 14, 2022, at Park Vista, East Moline.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, February 19, at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, with Pastor Scott Reece officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie Union Cemetery, Low Moor, IA.

Visitation is from 5 pm to 7 pm, Friday, February 18, at the funeral home.

She was born November 23, 1934, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Axel and Hildur Jensen. She went to Bob Jones Academy in Greenville, SC, graduating in 1952. She married Wayne Fatchett on October 6, 1973, at Lindsey Park Yacht Club in Davenport, IA. Her drive, dedication, and intelligence led her to be a successful and highly skilled businesswoman breaking many glass ceilings during her career, including being the first female member of The Davenport Club. She was an executive at Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Co. before advancing into the media business with Lee Enterprises as an Executive VP, supervising many aspects of their Human Resource Division until retiring in 1992.

Shirley enjoyed boating and dancing with her husband, Wayne, and she had a passion for golf, once making a hole-in-one and taking lessons with LPGA golf legend Nancy Lopez. Most of all, she loved to travel with Wayne, traveling around the world to many countries. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a one-of-a-kind woman who will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Wayne; a son, Robert “Rob” Fatchett, Moline, IL; grandchildren, Kirsten (Travis) Lansaw, Columbia City, IN, Cole Fatchett, Warsaw, IN, Danielle (Brandon) Denys, Moline, IL, Breanne Grubaugh, Moline, IL, and Jessica Grubaugh, Coal Valley, IL; sister, Grace Godwin, Rock Island and a brother, Marshall (Janet) Jensen, East Moline, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Preceded in death were her sons, Steve and Jeff Grubaugh, her parents, a brother Floyd Jensen and daughter-in-laws, Nancy Fatchett and Jill Grubaugh.
