Diane's journey began alongside her siblings, with whom she shared a childhood filled with laughter and creativity. She attended the old Moline High School, where she laid the foundation for a life of service and compassion. Diane's heart found its match in Norlan Overfield, and the two were united in marriage at Memorial Gordon Church on April 3, 1948. Their partnership was a beautiful example of commitment and love until Norlan's passing on March 17, 2006.
The legacy Diane leaves behind is rich with the love of her family. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Christine (Ronald) Wheeler of Anniston, Alabama; her sons, Jon (Darcy) Overfield of Rock Island, Illinois; and David (Misty) Overfield of Bettendorf, Iowa. Diane was a beacon of light and guidance to her grandchildren, Steven Jr., Jennifer, Carrie, Molly, Michael, Amanda, Thomas, Jon Jr., Sarah, David Jr., and Madison, as well as to her great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. Diane's sister, Susanne Newman of Moline, Illinois, and her brother, Kenneth Hall of East Moline, Illinois, will fondly remember their sister's loving nature, and her daughter-in-law, Cindy Overfield, who was a big part of her life. Preceding her in death were her beloved husband Norlan, her son Steven, and her sister Barbara Hershey.
Professionally, Diane dedicated many years to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Lutheran Home. She was celebrated for her exceptional care and the compassion she extended to all in her charge. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her work, as she was a committed member of the Silvis Baptist Church, where she found solace and fellowship.
Diane's artistic talents were a source of great pleasure and inspiration to her and those around her. She loved art in all its forms, from painting to sketching, and she found peace in the strokes of her brush and the lines of her drawings. But above all, her greatest masterpiece was her family, for whom her love was a boundless and vibrant canvas.
Those who knew Diane would describe her as loving, funny, and selfless. She possessed an infectious laughter that could light up a room and a generosity that knew no bounds. Her selflessness was not just a trait but a way of life, as she always put others before herself, making sure that those she loved were happy and cared for.
As we bid farewell to Shirley Diane Overfield, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, and a heart generously shared. Her memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. Diane's story does not end with her passing but lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will carry her spirit forward with love and cherished memories.
The family would like to give a special thanks to The Vistas staff, former Iowa Masonic health facility and everyone at Hospice Compassus.
