Shirley A.R. Roberts

Shirley Roberts, 96, of Moline, IL, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016, at Rosewood Care Center in Moline. Services will be Friday, August 26th, at 11:00 a.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a two-hour visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of the services. Burial will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Moline. Shirley A. R. May was born in Moline on March 19, 1920, to Floyd and Ruth (Larson) May. She was a graduate of Moline High School. In Clinton, IA, on January 26, 1939, she married Ralph C. Roberts, who preceded her in death on February 15, 1981. She retired in 1986, after twenty-five years as a salesperson for Indian Bluff Golf Course in Moline. Shirley was a member of the First Christian Church in Moline, and the Golden Circle Class, C.W.F. #4. She enjoyed playing the organ, playing Bridge, and playing golf in the Indian Bluff Ladies League. Survivors include daughters, Kathleen DeShane of Orion, IL, and Carolyn Stone of Silvis, IL; son, Duane Roberts of Hampton, VA; eight grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Budd May, and her daughter-in-law, Doris Roberts. The family would like to thank the nursing staff and the C.N.A.’s at Rosewood for the wonderful care provided to Shirley during her stay.
