Shirley Anne Schneekloth

October 17, 1935 — January 16, 2024

Shirley A. Schneekloth, a beacon of love and laughter, left this world on January 16, 2024, at the age of 88. She passed away peacefully at Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 17, 1935, in Moline, Shirley was the cherished daughter of Alphonse and Lena (Donis) VanGoethem.

Shirley's journey through life was one of companionship and enduring love when she married her beloved husband, Eugene "Duke" Schneekloth, on November 3, 1956, in Moline. Their union was blessed with laughter, joy, and three wonderful daughters. Although Duke preceded her in death on July 25, 1985, the legacy of their love continued to flourish through their children and extended family.

A proud graduate of Moline High School, Class of 1953, Shirley was known for her friendly demeanor and sense of laughter. Her career reflected her friendly nature, as she spent many fulfilling years working alongside her sisters in the family businesses, the Time Out and J. Gatsby's. She took immense pleasure in being part of the vibrant community that frequented these establishments.

Shirley's life was enriched by her interests and the simple pleasures she enjoyed. She loved shopping and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Whether it was a day at the casino or traveling afar, she embraced every moment with enthusiasm and an infectious smile.

Her legacy is carried on by her loving daughters, Sheri (Pat) Douglas of Moline, Debra (Erik) Swanberg of Moline, and Kris (Mike) Hodgerson of Carbon Cliff. Shirley was the adored grandmother to Derek (K.C.) Swanberg, Kenny (Keri) Swanberg, and Katie (Mike) Mertel, and the proud great-grandmother to Remy, Monte Swanberg, and Rowan Mertel. She is also survived by her sister, Sue Hafner of Moline. In addition to her husband, Duke, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Josephine Moore, Mary McCulley, Margie Ryder, and Maureen Anderson.

A visitation to honor Shirley's life will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 2 to 5 pm at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Her funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 am on Monday, January 22, at the same location. Shirley will be laid to rest at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, where she will be reunited with her beloved Duke.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Clarissa Cook Hospice Care staff for their exceptional care and thoughtfulness during Shirley's final days. It was a comfort to know she was cared for with such compassion.

Shirley A. Schneekloth will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her friendly spirit and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who knew her. As we say farewell, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of moments that will be treasured forever. Shirley's memory will continue to inspire kindness and joy in the hearts of those who loved her.

Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established later.
