Ruth Catherine Brink

March 18, 1913 — April 17, 2013

Ruth C. Brink, 100, of Moline, IL, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline. Cremation was accorded as per her wishes. A service celebrating her life will be held at Wendt Funeral Home, on June 10, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., with visitation to be held one hour prior to the service. A private burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Ruth was born March 18, 1913, in Milan, IL, to Charles and Margaret (Juergens) Blaser. She married Kenneth Brink on June 28, 1942. He preceded her in death in 2001. She graduated from Western Illinois University, and began her teaching career in one-room schools in rural Rock Island County. She taught in the Moline School District at Lincoln-Irving School, retiring in 1973. Her hobbies included traveling, hiking, reading, and needlework. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Moline, where she enjoyed participating in the card ministry program and Congregators. Ruth was a member of King's Daughters and the League of Women Voters. She and Ken were lifelong members of the Blackhawk Hiking Club, where they maintained many close friendships, enjoying Saturday and Big Hikes for over 50 years. Survivors include, her son, Harold of Longmont, CO; daughters Peggy (Steve) Biscontine of Moline, and Diane (Ken) Atwell of Nevada City, CA; four grandchildren; six grreat-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers and sisters, and a grandson, Johhn Frutos. A special thank you goes to all the caring staff at Hope Creek Care Center.
