Roy Buckrop, 88, of Moline, IL, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus in Silvis, IL. Visitation will be Sunday, November 6th, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Monday, November 7th, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL, with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, East Moline. Roy L. Buckrop was born in Naperville, IL, on August 19, 1923, to Albert R. and Margaret E. (Koch) Buckrop. He married Mildred M. Henderson on July 22, 1943, on her family farm near Albia, IA. During WWII, he served as an Aviation Cadet from March 1943 until December 1945, in the U.S. Army Air Corp Squadron I 3008th AAF Base Unit. He earned a degree in Physics from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA, and was employed as a General Engineer, by the Rock Island Arsenal Joint Munitions Command, for 50 years before his retirement in 2004. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in East Moline, and the Iowa Academy of Science. He enjoyed flying planes, restoring old automobiles, especially his '38 Willys, and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and rider. In addition to his wife, Mildred, survivors include, daughters: Carol (William) DeVoss of Russellville, KY, and Nancy Roraback of Moline; a son: Gary (Rebecca) Buckrop of Rock Island; a brother, Dr. Mark (Mary Lou) Buckrop of Taylor Ridge, IL; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a brother.
