Roland J. “Butch” Lea, 77, of East Moline, IL, formerly of Moline, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, surrounded by family members, at Hope Creek Continuing Care Center in East Moline. Services will be Friday, May 5th, at 11 a.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a two-hour visitation prior to the services, beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Autism Speaks, Hospice Compassus, or the donor’s choice. Roland Joseph Lea was born in Rock Island, IL, on February 5, 1940, the son of Archie and Alice V. (Skaggs) Lea. He married Patricia Andress on September 16, 1960, and later, on March 14, 1969, he married Marjorie Twing, who survives. Butch graduated from Moline High School in 1958. He was a member of the Teamsters UAW Local, and drove for several trucking companies in the area. He served as a corrections officer for Rock Island County and, for a short time, was owner of the Quad-City Stamp Store. He enjoyed collecting stamps and was a member of the Black Hawk Stamp Club. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited, and loved hunting, fishing, and camping. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Rock Island, IL; daughters, Lori Gilmore of Moline, Kelly (Ed) Happel of Moline, Michelle Sanders of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Lesley (Niel) Buck of Davenport, IA; a sister, Sandie (Ed) Cox of Milan, IL; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his step-father, Kenneth Griffiths.
