Robert L Wendell

Robert L. “Bob” Wendell, 93, of East Moline, IL, passed away Monday, December 12, 2016, at Aperion Care in East Moline. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Arrangements are being handled by Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. A service will be held Friday, April 21st, at First Christian Church, 1826 - 16th Street, Moline. Inurnment will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Moline or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Bob was born in Moline on December 29, 1922, to Dewey and Grace (Sheley) Wendell. On June 4, 1948, he married Vada Mae Reisenbigler, who preceded him in death July 26, 2013. He was a graduate of Moline High School, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII from 1943 until 1945, in the 489th Bomber Squadron while stationed in Corsica. He was an owner/operator, along with Butter Butterfield and Robert Trant, of B & B Glass Company in Moline for forty years. He was a member of American Legion Post 246, and First Christian Church, both of Moline. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, baseball,basketball, and traveling with his wife. He especially loved spending time with his granddaughters. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah K. Wendell of Goodlettsville, TN; sons, Jon (Maryvonne) Wendell of Phoenix, AZ, and Robert “Butch” (Nancy) Wendell of Holcombe, WI; and granddaughters, Hilary, Kirsten, Isabella, and Illiana; and a sister, Marion Griffin of East Moline, IL. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard, and sisters, Doris, Helen, Vera, and Gert.
