Robert Grant Jones

Robert Grant Jones Sr., age 74, of Iowa City, IA, formerly of Rock Island, IL, a loving husband, father and grandfather has gone home with the Lord. He died on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at his home in Iowa City, surrounded by his three children, Bob, Robin, Lorie and their spouses along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Stacy, Kelli, Tara, Laura, Alex, Jacob, McKenzie, Jamie and Lexi by his side. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 6th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Masonic service being held at 7:00 p.m. by Moline Masonic Lodge 1014, at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, IL. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Wendt Funeral Home. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice. Robert Grant Jones Sr. was born on August 19, 1935, to James and Louise (Phipps) Jones in St. Joseph, MO. He married the love of his life, Dona D. Fischer on February 6, 1954, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on May 1st, 2004. Robert graduated from the Shell Oil Corporation School of Business and attended Black Hawk College. He was employed with Franks Foundry before working at John Deere East Moline Works, Local 865 as a combine repairman for 30 years, retiring in 1987. After retiring he worked for the Rock Island Jewish Center, Lady Luck Casino and Consumer Choice Health. Robert also did body repair work for "repo" cars for Iowa Finance Company for many years. Robert was a member of the Moline Gospel Temple as well as a Mason with Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Moline, IL, Lodge 1014. Robert enjoyed restorig cars and homes. He also enjoyed traveling and visiting the casino. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren as well. Survivors include his daughters, Robin (Greg) Johnson of Coralville, IA, Lorie (Greg) Ginneberge of Iowa City, IA., Terri Jones of Rock Island, IL, Wendy (Rich) Housenga of Rock Island, IL; Son: Robert (Lynn) Jones Jr. of Iowa City, IA.; Sister: Ruby Erickson of Lawrenceville, GA.; 16 grandchildren; 14 Great grandchildren; Brother-in-law, Terry Piatt of Bettendorf, IA, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ricky Jones and a granddaughter, Brandy Lee.
