Richard Peacock

Richard 'Dick' Peacock, 95, of the Light House in Silvis, IL, and formerly of Moline, IL, died Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center West in Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, August 6th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 7th, at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, with Military Honors accorded by American Legion Post #246. A procession will be leaving from Wendt Funeral Home for the services. Those wishing to attend the graveside services should be at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to the Moline Public Library. Richard F. Peacock was born April 10, 1914, to Charles and Edna (Carlson) Peacock in Moline. He married Grace L. Cresswell on June 19, 1937, in Maxwell, IA. She preceded him in death on December 13, 2002. He attended Silvis Grade School, and graduated from United Township High School in East Moline. Dick served in the U.S. Army during WWII, as a Sergeant Major at a Station Hospital in Camp Dodge, IA, and at the 814th Hospital Center in Paris, France. He then re-enlisted to serve during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant Major in the Ninth Corps Artillery in Korea. Dick was employed by the former International Harvester Company-East Moline Plant for 45 years, retiring as a Buyer in 1982. He was a 56-year member of Moline American Legion Post #246, a member of the Moline Viking Club, and a Life Member of the Quad-City Association of Purchasing Management. Survivors include: his daughter: Lynne (Fredrick) Bell of West Des Moines, IA; two granddaughters: Alison Bell of Waukee, IA, and Stephanie Bell of San Francisco, CA; nieces: Pearl Johnston and Caroline Wasson, both of East Moline; and nephews: Jerry and Dick Reeve, both of Denver, CO. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother: John Peacock.
