Richard Leo Spence

Richard L. Spence, 87, of Moline, IL, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at UnityPoint Trinity West Medical Center in Rock Island, IL. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Graveside services will be held for friends and relatives at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21st, at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #246. Those wishing to attend should be at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline by 10:45 a.m. to be included in the procession to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Richard Leo Spence was born June 16, 1930, in Aledo, IL, the son of Ralph and Gladys (Brock) Spence. On September 14, 1956, in Fairfield, IA, he married Patricia A. Hughes, who survives. He served during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army, and was then employed for twenty years as a maintenance man at the Montgomery Ward Store. In addition to his wife, Patricia, survivors include daughters, Debra Spence and Elizabeth Dove, both of Moline, Sandra Septer of Davenport, IA, and Rosie Adams of Milan, IL; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Pamela Spence, five brothers, two sons-in-law, Donald Adams and Dennis Edmonds, and a great-great-grandson, Maverick Clearman Warner.
