Ray Walker, age 85, of Moline, IL, died Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Forest Hills Health & Rehab Center in East Moline, IL. Services will be held Wednesday, July 27th, at 2:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a visitation from 12:00 Noon until time of the service. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery in Moline. Memorials may be made to Christ Church of Colona, IL, or to the Living Church of Jesus in Eldridge, IA. Raynold D. Walker was born in Sandwich, IL, on June 26, 1926, to Raymond and Hattie (Barrows) Walker. He graduated from Open Bible College in Des Moines, IA, in 1951. While attending Bible College, he met Avis LaVon German, and they married October 16, 1953. He worked, beginning in 1947, for Weiss & Neuman Shoe Company in Davenport, IA, for 15 years, and then worked for Stride Rite Corporation for 15 years. He then was employed by Holmes Shoe Store in Moline, retiring after 15 years. He served as a minister in the area for over 60 years. In 1952, he founded the Open Bible Church in Green Rock, and then founded the Open Bible Church in East Moline. He was the District Superintendent for the Open Bible Church in the Southern District of Illinois, and was Board Member of Youth For Christ of Illinois in the Quad-Cities. He enjoyed baking and interior decorating. In addition to his wife, Avis, he is survived by: son, R. Dwayne Walker of Pine River, MN, step-father, James Barrows of Moline, IL, three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
