Raymond Roger Jones

Raymond R. Jones, 84, of East Moline, IL, died Monday, July 20, 2009, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center in Rock Island, IL. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be Wednesday, July 22nd, at 1:00 p.m., at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island. Wendt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Raymond R. Jones was born in Kewanee, IL, on December 4, 1924, to Roger and Ruth (Sackfield) Jones. On April 2, 1947, in Moline, he married Virginia Erickson. He graduated high school in Greenfield, IN. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served as radioman aboard the USS Taurus in the South Pacific during WWII. He was employed many years at Johnson Sheet Metal Company in East Moline, before moving to Pompano Beach, FL. He was a former member of BPOE (Elks) and the Sheet Metal Workers International Association. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; sons: Thomas (Laura) Jones of Pearland, TX, and Timothy (Suzie) Jones of Okeechobee, FL; a sister: Marilyn Holliday of Coal Valley, IL; nephew: Robert Holliday; and nieces: Dawn Watts, Debbie Holliday, and Jane Brobston.
