Raymond Benfield, 81, of Homosassa, FL and Rock Island, IL, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island. A private graveside service will be held at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Raymond Benfield was born in Canton, OH, on August 17, 1931, to Raymond and Viola (Larsen) Benfield. On July 27, 1950, in Canton, OH, he married Barbara Levering, who preceded him in death in June 28, 2001. On January 14, 2005, in Crystal River, FL, he married Marilyn Melendy, who preceded him in death February 18, 2009. In Inverness, FL, on May 17, 2010, he married Diane Cornelius, who survives. He received a Masters Degree in Engineering from the University of Minnesota, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed in sales and as a Mechanical Engineer for Timken Bearing Company in Canton, OH, for 36 years, retiring November 30, 1985. He was then employed by the former ImPro Company in Milan, IL, for 10 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island, and belonged to the American Automobile Club of America, the Family Motor Coach Association, and was a member and past president of the Mississippi Valley Antique Car Club.. In addition to his wife, Diane, survivors include: daughters: Bethann Butterworth of Silvis, IL, and Pam (Terry) Kissell of Moline; a son: Tim (Ruth) Benfield of Moline; six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, MaryLou Reichbaugh, and a brother, Robert L. Benfield.
