Ralph F. Erikson, 90, of Moline, IL, formerly of Rock Island, IL, died Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Heartland Health Care Center in Moline. Services will be Saturday, May 30th, at 11:00 a.m., with a two-hour visitation from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded, and inurnment of the cremains will take place later this year at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rock Island Public Library. Ralph was born in Moline on January 19, 1925, to Erik A. and Susie (Isaacson) Erikson. He graduated from Moline High School, and was a WWII Army veteran. On October 17, 1952, in Rock Island, he married Martha “Marty” Richeson, who preceded him in death in December of 2001. He wed Loretta Blaser in East Moline, in September of 2002. She died March 20, 2013. He was a Tool & Die Maker for John Deere & Company for 39 years, retiring in 1983. Ralph was a Trustee and Clerk of South Rock Island Township, a member of American Legion Post 246 in Moline, a member and past president of the Rock Island Library Board, and a member of the Over-the-Hill Coffee Gang. For over 50 years, he was Mason in Moline Lodge No. 1014, A.F. & A.M. of Moline, and attained a 32-degree. He was a member of South Park Presbyterian Church, served on the Session, and enjoyed singing in the choir. He also sang with a Barbershop Quartet, and was a member of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. Ralph was a founding member of the Mississippi Valley Wood Carvers’ Association. Ralph also was proud to be an Eagle Scout. Survivors include a son, Larry (Brenda) Erikson of Rome, IL, a daughter, Laura Erikson of Moline, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Doris Patterson. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation for the wonderful care and compassion that was given Ralph at both The Fountains and Heartland Health Care.
