Philis Jean Clingan

Philis Jean Clingan, 77, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Monday, August 21, 2017, at Rosewood Care Center in Moline, IL. She will be cremated and buried at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island. There will be no services, and in lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials to be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Jean Brown was born November 10, 1939, to Carl and Philis (Kinnamon) Brown of Seaton/Keithsburg, IL. On March 15, 1969, she married David Clingan. Jean taught third grade at Lincoln Elementary School in Rock Island, for thirty-two years. She served as Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star, and she loved to collect Bald Eagle items. In addition to her husband, David, survivors include her sister, Pat Ward of Rock Island; her brother, James Brown of Keithsburg; her aunt, Jean Kinnamon of Aledo, IL; four nieces, Becky (Brown) Ward, Marie (Brown) Casey, Tami (Ward) Johnson, and Kelly (Ward) Whetstine; three nephews, Danny Brown, Dustin Brown, and Douglas Ward; and a close family friend, Gloria Keeslar. She was preceded in death by her parents, a niece, Mary Brown, and two beloved dogs, Heidi and Cricket.
