Dr. Philip J. Greko, of Moline, IL, passed away at age 64, after a lingering illness with kidney failure, with his mother and brother at his bedside. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park Cemetery in Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to In Touch Ministries, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, or to Palmer College of Chiropractic. A strong believer in Jesus Christ, he often witnessed to as many as he could about the virtues of being a Christian, passing forward the torch of faith, and living in the righteousness of Christ throughout a person’s life. Philip was born August 2, 1950, in Moline, the son of Richard and Dorothy Greko. He was married to Sara Barnuevo in June of 2000 for 13 years until his illness, and has a stepdaughter, Kamilla. He graduated with highest honors from Moline High School in 1969, from Augustana College in 1973, and with highest honors, Summa Cum Laude at Palmer College of Chiropractic. While working as an Assistant Professor, he took a Sabbatical leave to earn a Master’s degree in Biology and Research from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI. In addition to his private practice for 36 years in chiropractic, he was employed at Palmer College of Chiropractic, having been last promoted as an Associate Professor of Radiology. Palmer College has been very good to him, as he received many awards including the highest scholarships award, David D. Palmer Scholarship, of which only two are given out per year. Other awards include the Presidential Research award with a publication in Journal of Manipulative Physiological Therapeutics, and other peer reviewed publications. He held professional licenses in five states, including Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Arkansas, and North Carolina. He was also a consultant to Mississippi Valley Airlines in designing aircraft seats for aviation pilots in 1984. His community and church service included being a past scout director, church youth leader, deacon, Sabbath School Superintendent, President of the Board of the Rock Island County Humane Society, and a member of the Moline Optimist Club. He enjoyed collecting antiques, particularly from the Civil War, Art History, and was an avid reader of history. He also enjoyed traveling with his family members, having taken many trips in the United States and Western Europe, and especially by train to New Mexico on the Southwest Chief from Galesburg, IL. Survivors include his mother, Dorothy, his brother, Jeff of East Moline, IL, and cousins living in the Quad Cities and California. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard. He will be greatly missed as he has touched the lives of so many of his patients and friends. It has been a blessing to our family that so many of you have taken the time to call or stop by and share fond memories with him.
