It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Penny Machu on January 15, 2023.
Penny was born on May 29, 1950, to Kenneth and Janice (Broughton) Smith.
She graduated from Saydel High School in 1969 and spent her distinguished career of 32 years at John Deere Harvester before retiring in 2009. She married her best friend, James Machu Jr., in 1982. He preceded her in death in 2006.
She was loved and will be dearly missed by her daughter Carla (Matthew) Schmidt, Morton, IL, stepdaughter Kelly (Jeff) VanDell, Weaverville, NC, son Craig (Kaylyn) Winegar, Nixa, MO, stepson Danny (Jennifer)Machu, Moline, grandchildren Rian and Broc Schmidt, Kylie Brummett, and Reagan Winegar; great-grandchild Timber Rose Brummett.
Penny Machu was a true sports enthusiast passionate about the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Cubs. She also found great joy in activities such as bowling, using her computer, and spending quality time with her beloved basset hound, family, and friends. Penny's enthusiasm for life was inspiring, and her spirit for sports and activities will be deeply missed.
We invite all family and friends to join us in celebrating the life of Penny on Thursday, January 19, from 4-6 pm at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. We have many fond memories to share, and this time to remember Penny together is sure to be meaningful. Please come prepared to laugh, cry, and cherish the time we had with our beloved Penny.
