Olen Laverne Dunham

Olen Laverne Dunham, Sr., 85, of Moline, IL, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at Heartland Care Center in Moline. Visitation will be Sunday, August 17th, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Monday, August 18th, at 10:30 am, at First Christian Church, 1826 – 16th Street in Moline. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Moline. Olen Laverne Dunham was born in Adair County, Missouri, on July 28, 1929, to Peter Q. and Arizone (Erwin) Dunham. In Kirksville, MO, on November 25, 1956, he married Garna Jeanette McDowell, who preceded him in death October 21, 2013. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, attached to the Infantry 25th Division 35th Regiment. Olen worked in the maintenance Department at Deere & Company, for 20 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of First Christian Church in Moline, and was involved with the Active Members Group at the church. He was a Foster Parent for 32 years, and was awarded a Criminal Justice Award in 1980. Survivors include: daughters, Lisa (Kenny) McElroy and O’Lynn (Todd) Thiele, both of Moline; sons, Vern (fiancé Sandy) Dunham, Jr of Moline and Steven Dunham of Rock Island, IL; sisters, Nadine Dunham of Kirksville, MO, Karen Epperson of New Sharon, IA, and Avis McBee of Memphis, MO; and grandchildren Hannah and Landon. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Deanna Fraser and Arleene McCallister, and a brother: Bob Dunham.
