In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center, 724 W. 2nd Avenue, Milan, Illinois. Norman Bentley Luse was born in Moline on August 26, 1933. He was the second of four children to Charles R. and Mary E. (Whitehead) Luse. He graduated from United Township High School in East Moline, and attended Eureka College in Illinois for two years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, and was then employed by the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring as a warehouseman after twenty years. Norm was a member of First Christian Church in Moline. His hobbies included watching college sports and painting. On Saturdays he would make sure to have his televisions on and ready for the games. He was an avid fan of Hawkeye football and basketball. He loved keeping track of the college football standings and watching for the great plays. He was a phenomenal artist and loved painting with oils. His patience and precision with pencils and brushes was amazing. He took great pride in mixing his own colors for each of his paintings and worked tirelessly to create what he saw in his mind. His drawings include very intricate house designs and landscape scenes. The detail he put into his work was impeccable. Norman looked forward to spending time and doing things with his sister Elvira's family and those memories will be cherished. He also loved his four-legged companion, Winston, who was adopted by Norman's niece, Pam. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the University of Iowa, Iowa City and UnityPoint, Rock Island for being outstanding caregivers and taking amazing care of him. We also appreciate all of the help and support of the staff at Fort Armstrong, Rock Island. In addition, a big thank you to Tom and Jan for being his support throughout his lengthy battle. Norman always had a positive outlook and took challenges as they came. His gentle soul will be missed. Survivors include his brothers, Charles (Shirley) Luse of Aurora, OR, and Tom (Jan) Luse of Moline; his sister, Elvira (Lonard) Blansett of East Moline, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
