Murrel Ausmus, 88, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Friday, April 1, 2011, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, IL. Services will be Tuesday, April 5th, at 1:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL, with the visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, IL. Memorials may be made to Hope Creek Care Center. Murrel L. Ausmus was born in Knox County, Missouri, on January 7, 1923, to Dave and Genevieve (Hunter) Ausmus. On September 2, 1943, in Waterloo, IA, he married Maybelle Zeldorf, who preceded him in death on February 25, 1993. Murrel was a 25-year member of Local 150 Operator Engineers, a 26-year member of the Laborers International Union, and worked for Valley Construction Company and Quad City Construction Company. During his career, he traveled to jobs in thirty-two states. He was a member of the Rock Island County Conservation Club, and enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spending time with his family and his dog, Lady. Survivors include: a daughter: Betty (Harry) Park of Texas; a son: Jim (Sheila) Ausmus of Colona, IL; a sister: Fern Martin of Alexander, MO; three brothers: Edward, Bill, and Junior Ausmus, all of Missouri; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a daughter, and a son.
