Mildred Ida Polk

Mildred Ida Polk “Millie” of Ft. Myers, FL, passed away at Hope Hospice on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at the age of 75. She was one of eight children born and raised on the Selander family farm in New York Mills, MN. After high school, she and her sister moved to California, where she married William “Ben” Polk of Percival, IA. They re-settled in the Midwest and raised a family in Moline, IL. After 20 years in Illinois, they moved to Ft. Myers Beach in active retirement. Millie volunteered as a “turtle-lady” who identified and protected sea-turtle nests. She was a competitive tennis player and a devoted enthusiast to her grandchildren’s sporting events. Millie was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, and wife of over 52 years. She is survived by her husband, two children, and six grandchildren. Services were held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ft. Myers Beach on Monday, January 3, 2011.
