Michael "Mike" Willis, a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 15, 2024, at the age of 64 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born on April 7, 1960, in Rock Island, Illinois, to James Willis and Patricia "Bebber" Willis, Mike grew up in bustling households that were never short on love or laughter.
Mike was a proud graduate of Black Hawk College, where he studied accounting, a field that suited his intelligent and methodical nature.
In his personal life, Mike was known for his generous spirit and his passion for the simple pleasures in life. He was an avid chess player, a strategy that reflected his thoughtful and analytical approach to both games and life. Fall weekends would find him cheering on his beloved Chicago Bears, and come summer, he would be just as enthusiastically supporting the Chicago Cubs. Mike's love for his teams was infectious, and many fond memories were made with family and friends as they rallied around the television or attended games together.
Mike's kind and friendly nature extended to all creatures, and he had a particular soft spot for his cats, who were his constant companions and confidants. His gentle way with animals was just one aspect of his generous and caring personality.
He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that is carried on by his siblings: sisters Laura, Nancy, Shay, Desi, and Michelle. Brothers: Rich, Tom, John, and Robert. And many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, James Willis, mother, Patricia Bebber Owens, brother, James Wheeler, and nephew, Brandon Owens. Mike's absence will be deeply felt by his family and friends, who cherished his presence as a steadying and loving force in their lives.
Mike will be remembered as a man of intelligence, friendliness, and generosity. These words not only describe who he was but also the impact he had on those who were fortunate enough to know him. He approached life with quiet confidence and a gentle smile, traits that drew people to him and made them feel at ease in his company.
As we bid farewell to Mike, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness and through the cherished memories that will continue to bring smiles to the faces of those who loved him.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Mike Willis was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and though he has departed from this world, his warmth remains in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
