Mary M Harper

Mary M. Harper, age 89, of Friendship Manor, Rock Island, IL, passed away at Silver Cross Nursing Center on Saturday, July 28, 2007. Wendt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A private family service will be conducted at a later date, at which time her remains will be returned to Mother Nature. Memorials can be made in her memory to the Moline Foundation, Friendship Manor, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Mrs. Harper was born December 29, 1917, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the daughter of Atwood R. and Clara Brabb McAndrew. She married James A. Harper, June 25, 1944, in Ypsilanti. She was a graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan. She was a vocal music supervisor in elementary public schools in Muskegon and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Since moving to this area in 1946, she has been an active member of First Congregational Church, Moline, and it's Floral-Service Guild; the Quad City Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi; the Jane Adams Circle of The King's Daughters; a volunteer for 41 years at the former Lutheran Hospital, the Trinity Medical Center, and the United Medical Center. She was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Bethany Home, and past president of P.T.A.'s at the former McKinley Elementary and Coolidge Junior High Schools in Moline. She was a 41-year member, and past president, of Chapter BL of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and served for five years on the Board of Trustees of the Illinois P.E.O. Home in Knoxville, IL, serving as Chairman in 1981. Survivors include the surviving spouse; a daughter, Susan Armour of Centennial, CO; a son, James F. Harper and Michelle Pauly of Medford, OR; a son, Thomas A. Harper of Moline; four grandchildren: Adam (Allison) Armour, Thomas B. Harper, Christopher Armour, and Elizabeth A. Harper; a brother, Atwood R McAndrew, Jr. of Murrieta, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
