Mary G Brown

Mary G. Brown, 79, of Moline IL, passed away Friday, January 23, 2009, at Genesis West Medical Center in Davenport, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 27th, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Wednesday, January 28th at 11:00 a.m., at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island. Burial will be a National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Today we are mourning the passing of a very special lady. Mary was fun, a loving mother, grandmother, and an exceptional wife. Mary G. Soulis was born in East Moline on October 29, 1929, to George and Stavroula (Montazo) Soulis. She graduated from United Township High School in 1950. She met George J. Brown in the fall of 1956, and they were married April 28th, 1957, in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. She retired in 1988, after 30 years, from Brown’s Shoe Barn in DeWitt, IA. She was an exceptional cook of many famous Greek dishes, enjoyed drawing, watching her favorite soap operas, and Greek dancing. In addition to her husband George J. Brown, she is survived by her children: Jim Brown(Mary) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kathy Jones(Tim) of Keosauqua, IA, Helen Brown of Milan IL, and Steve Brown(Correen) of Paducah, KY; her grandchildren: Lauren and Jared Brown (Jim), Jesse Clark(Helen), Christopher Brown(Steve), and Jennifer Wolever(Helen). She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister from Greece, a twin sister: Dorothy Powell, brother: Steve Soulis, and an infant daughter, Georgia.
