Mary “Tommie” Barber, 89, formerly of Moline, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Illini Restorative Care in Silvis, IL. Services will be Saturday, January 2nd, at 11:00 a.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service. Interment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, IL. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at JDRF.org. Born Mary Francis Kinney on February 11, 1926 in Hoosick Falls, NY, her family later moved to East Moline, IL. After graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Moline, she worked as a telephone operator. Mary and John H. Barber were married on August 30, 1945. They had five children and were wed for 42 years prior to his death. She was employed as an outside teller at Moline National Bank, retiring after 25 years of service. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, baking, traveling, angel collecting and, in her later years, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, walking along the river, tending her roses, watching the Cubs, and casino visits with her family. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, their daughter, Cheryl, and her eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by four sons, Harry “Rich” (Linda) Barber of Taylor Ridge, IL, Tom Barber of Lincoln, NE, Dan (Nancy) Barber of Rockingham, NC, and Gary (Deborah) Barber of Winona, MN; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a large family of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the staff at Crosstown, Illini Restorative, and Genesis Hospice, for the loving care that was given to Mary.
