Mary Elizabeth Madsen

Mary E. Madsen, 92, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, at Amber Ridge Assisted Living in Moline, IL. Services will be Friday, May 30th, at 10:00 a.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a one-hour visitation prior to the services. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery in Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Island Animal Care & Control in Moline, IL, or to the Gloria Dei Presbyterian Church in Rock Island, IL. Mary Elizabeth Cramer was born in Rock Island on August 10, 1921, to Ross and Josephine (Summers) Cramer. On June 29, 1943, in Rock Island, she married John Madsen, who preceded her in death on November 14, 2012. She graduated from Rock Island High School, and was an active member of the Gloria Dei Presbyterian Church in Rock Island. She was a Sunday School Superintendent, a teacher, a former church elder, a former church deacon, and a past president of Christian Friendliness. She was a past president of the PTA at Edison School in Rock Island, a past president of the Rock Island Council of PTA, and a life member of the Illinois Congress of PTA. Survivors include, a daughter, Susan (Mark) Edwards of Phoenix, AZ; a son, John (Linda) Madsen of Rock Island, IL; grandchildren: Joli (Greg), Anne (Teddy), Christy (Jeremy), and Daniel; two great-grandchildren, and another to arrive in July. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Poffenbarger and Madelyn Retherford.
