Mary Elaine Allen

Mary Elaine Allen, 99, of Moline, IL, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Friendship Manor in Rock Island. Services will be Saturday, May 14th, at 10:00 a.m., with a one-hour visitation prior to the service, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery in Hedrick, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Moline and to Friendship Manor Memory Care Unit in Rock Island. Mary Elaine Watts was born March 5, 1917, in Melstone, MT, to Harry A. and M. Isabela (Fargher) Watts. On October 10, 1936, in Sigourney, IA, she married Truman B. Allen, who preceded her in death July 3, 1977. She graduated in the Class of 1934 from Hedrick, IA. She was employed by J.C. Penney Company in Moline, for 25 years, retiring in November of 1985 as a Merchandising Assistant in the Drapery Department. She was a life-long active member of First Christian Church in Moline, where she had taught in the nursery and had served as a deaconess. Elaine was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an avid card player, and loved traveling throughout the country with her friends and work colleagues. Survivors include, daughter, Kay (James) Schaefer; son, Kirk (Jacqueline) Allen; grandsons, Mark (Amy) Schaefer, John (Shawn) Schaefer, and Eric Allen; six great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Baker; sisters-in-law, Pat Watts and Nila Watts; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, four brothers, three brothers-in-law, and many close friends. The family would like to extend their thankfulness and gratitude to the Memory Unit at Friendship Manor and to Hospice Compassus for their kindness and devotion, especially during the last weeks of her life.
