Mary A. McCulley, 93, of Moline, IL, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, IL. Visitation will be Sunday, July 23rd at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Monday, July 24th, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to Hope Creek Activities. Mary A. VanGoethem was born in Moline on February 19, 1924, to Alfons and Lena (Dhanens) VanGoethem. On October 15, 1949, in Moline, she married Robert C. McCulley, who preceded her in death on March 1, 1977. During her marriage, she was a homemaker who loved baking. Previously, she had been employed at the Rock Island Arsenal, the American Legion, and Brownberry Bakery. Mary enjoyed collecting figurines, watching sports and TV, and was a devoted Cubs fan. Last year, she was so thrilled to see the Cubs finally win the World Series. She was a member of the East End Club, the American Legion, and the VFW. Survivors include daughters, Brenda Sanchez of Moline, Cindy (Jay) Sharp of Bettendorf, IA; granddaughters, Kelly Sharp and Amy (Mike) Diers; great-grandchildren, Mya, Keenan, and Kaleb; sisters, Susie Hafner and Shirley Schneekloth; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters, Jo Moore, Marge Ryder, and Maurine Anderson, and special friend, Frank DeGryse.
