Karl cared for many pets from an early age – Pepper the pigeon, an owl, a squirrel, a hedgehog, finches, Minnie, a raccoon, Hogo, a German Shepherd, and a dog named Brook, among many others. He was especially fond of the current family pet, Lucy, a Chihuahua.
