Marlin E. Weakly, 85, of Rock Island, IL, died Monday, December 21, 2009, at the Silver Cross Nursing Center at Friendship Manor in Rock Island. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29th, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Services will be Wednesday, December 30th, at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post #246 of Moline. Memorials may be made to the River Bend Food Bank. Marlin E. Weakly was born in Bradley, IL, on May 11, 1924, to Daniel and Lucille (Bender) Weakly. On May 27, 1953, in Moline, he married Margaret Davidson, who preceded him in death in December of 1988. He graduated with a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Missouri at Columbia, and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was employed by John Deere Harvester as a Design Engineer, retiring after 27 years. He worked as a John Deere tour guide for 18 years after his retirement. He was a member of First Christian Church in Rock Island; the Mississippi Region Antique Automobile Club of American; the Moline Family Campers; the Holiday Ramblers; the 70th Infantry Division Association; the John Deere Retirees; and the Breakfast Club of Retired Engineers of Deere & Co. Survivors include: a daughter: Barbara Weakly of Oak Park, IL; a son: Dr. Daniel (Kathie) Weakly of Snohomish, WA; and three grandchildren: Kristin, Andrew, and Robert Weakly. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
