In the early hours of January 1, 2024, Mark Conrad Frederiksen, a man whose zest for life rivaled the sky he loved to soar through, passed away in Tucson, Arizona, due to heart complications while hiking with his family in the mountains that he so loved. Born on December 20, 1949, in Moline, Illinois, Mark embarked on a journey characterized by passion, purpose, and the relentless pursuit of joy in every moment.
Mark’s life stood as a testament to the power of friendship, adventure, and a love for Jesus Christ. Educated at Moline Senior High School, he laid the foundation for a life of continuous learning and growth.
Mark served in the United States Army with honor, exemplifying his commitment to his country and the values he held dear. During his time in the Army, Mark developed his passion and enjoyment of skydiving. After completing an Electrician Apprenticeship, he mastered the trade with a craftsman’s touch and a servant’s heart, dedicating himself to the local IBEW union.
Mark was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Marcia. Mark was a guiding father to his son, Rowdy, daughter, Angie; his daughter-in-law, Megan; son-in-law, Eirik; and a nurturing grandfather to his grandsons, Cooper, Micah, Bennett, Isaac and Evan. He was cherished by his entire family. Mark's brother, Mike, and his sister-in-law, Trish, also held a special place in his heart. Mark enjoyed spending time with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Tina Lassuy.
Together with Marcia, they raised a family that mirrored Mark’s values of love, excitement for life, and a pursuit of deep friendships.
Mark found peace and joy in the great outdoors. He was always found running on trails, swinging golf clubs, engaging in lively pickleball games, jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, flying skydivers, hiking challenging peaks, skiing down powdery slopes, or casting a line into the water—each activity spoke of a man who sought the Creator in the heart of creation.
Mark’s adventurous spirit and enjoyment of God’s creation are a legacy he has passed down to his entire family and friends. He could always be found enjoying a good book and quiet time at home. Described as loving, funny and kind, his laughter and smile touched the hearts of everyone around him.
In the words of Mark’s favorite quote, “Don’t go away mad, just go away,” we bid farewell to Mark Conrad Frederiksen. Let us carry forward his love, faith and the map of his adventures. Though his earthly journey has concluded, his spirit marches on in the lives he touched and the love he shared. We commend Mark to the Almighty, confident that he has found peace in the arms of our Savior. We celebrate a life well-lived, a race well-run, and a man well-loved. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
