Marjorie M. "Marge" Ryder, 84, of Moline, IL, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Friday, October 22, 2010, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 25th, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moline, where she was a member. Burial will be on the Rock Island Arsenal, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Harold. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a rosary recited at 4:30 p.m., led by the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church, EWTN, or to Sioux City Carmel. Marge was born March 28, 1926, at home in East Moline, the daughter of Alfons and Lena Donis Van Goethem. She married Harold J. Ryder on July 5, 1947, at Sacred Heart Church in Moline. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1993. Marge was a devoted wife and mother to her eleven children, and a proud grandmother. She worked for a short time at the Licorice Factory before becoming a 24-7 homemaker. When Dad retired, Mom pursued her passion for Bingo, with Dad's approval, saying, "You deserve it." A person once told Mom, "You're taking a gamble on Harold", and Dad replied, "Yeah, but I won the jackpot!" Mom often said, "I have no regrets." Survivors and (spouses) include her daughters: Susan Mehuys, Regina Ryder, and Paula (Kyle) Hernstrom, all of Moline, Mary (Chris) Lievens of Sherrard, IL, and Joanne (Wayne) Norris of Rock Island; sons: Michael, Daniel, and Joseph Ryder, all of Moline, and John (Susie) Ryder of East Moline; grandchildren: Shannon, Paul, Adam, Teresa, Elizabeth, Helen, Anna, John, James, Pauline, Cathy, Michaelle, Johnny, Katie, Colin, and Jerid; six great-grandchildren; and sisters: Mary McCulley, Maureen Anderson, Shirley Schneckloth, and Susie Hafner, all of Moline. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughters: Marjorie Rasso and Sr.M.Immaculata P.C.P.A.; her grandson: James Lievens; and her sister: Josephine Moore.
